Mixing

Your stems get a clear picture in our control room: every layer in place, vocals up front without losing the groove, and space that still works on headphones and speakers.

Mixing is where separate recordings become a song. At Micracoriva in Amsterdam we work in a 21 m² control room with monitors that let you judge detail and low end honestly. We mix sessions tracked here, and stems you send from home or another studio.

Mix engineer Sophie de Vries guides you from the first listen to the final bounce. You do not need to be in the room for every step: much of the feedback runs through structured notes and short calls. If you want to listen in during a mix, we schedule that within our opening hours.

How it works

  1. Brief

You send stems, tempo, references and any mix notes. Within 1 business day we confirm everything is technically sound and which rate applies.

  2. Technical check

We verify sample rate (up to 96 kHz), phase, clipping and file naming. Missing or duplicate exports are discussed before we start.

  3. Mix

Balance, EQ, compression, space and automation are built section by section. You receive a first mix version to check at home and on different speakers.

  4. Delivery

After revisions we deliver the final mix as WAV, plus an optional stem master as a starting point for mastering. We keep an archive for 12 months.

Who this mixing service is for

The service suits artists and bands finishing a single, EP or album, producers who tracked at home but want a fresh mix, and labels looking for one contact point in Amsterdam. Heavy bass hip-hop, layered indie guitars, detailed electronic tracks: the approach changes with the genre, but the goal stays the same — your music should read clearly everywhere.

If you only have a rough mix from your DAW and want it developed professionally, that works as long as you supply individual tracks or bus stems. We do not accept every possible DAW session with third-party plugins; see our guide on delivering stems for the format that runs smoothest.

  • Singles and focus tracks for streaming
  • EPs up to five songs under one project price
  • Albums up to twelve songs with consistent tone between tracks
  • Material recorded in our live room or vocal booth, or sent from elsewhere

Delivering and preparing stems

A predictable mix starts with tidy exports. Send WAV files per song, all from the same start point (bar 1, beat 1), without a limiter on the master of your export. Vocals, drums, bass and instruments on separate tracks keep us flexible; bus stems (for example all guitars together) are fine if you agree that upfront.

Label files clearly: Kick, Snare, LeadVox, BassDI work better than Audio_03. Include tempo and key in your message. Large projects go via a cloud link; on request we can discuss handover at Goudsbloemstraat 73 in the Jordaan.

The knowledge base article lists checklists for headroom, mono compatibility and avoiding double reverbs. If you are unsure, send a short demo export — we reply within 1 business day.

How a mix run works here

After the technical check we schedule the mix in our calendar. The first version focuses on macro balance: level relationships between drums, bass, harmony and vocals, plus a spatial frame. Only then do we refine details such as de-essing, parallel drum compression or sidechain on synths.

You do not have to sit in the studio all day. Many clients listen at home on studio headphones, car speakers and phone, then send point-by-point feedback. Prefer to listen together in the control room? Book a slot during Mon–Fri 10–20, Sat 11–18; get in touch to reserve time.

Mixing is stereo by default. Surround or Atmos is outside this service; ask for a custom quote via the contact form if needed.

Revisions and collaboration

For Mixing, 2 revision rounds are included after the first mix version, as long as you send concrete, bundled feedback (for example one email with time stamps). “A bit warmer” is fine if you add a reference; scattered messages over weeks slow the project down.

Extra rounds or larger rewrites (new stems, different arrangements) are quoted separately by hour or per track — we agree that in advance. Our terms and conditions cover payment, cancellation and ownership of the mix once it is paid.

Questions about privacy of your audio are covered in our privacy policy. Commercial releases with several stakeholders work best with a fixed deadline and one decision-maker on your side.

Delivery, formats and stem master

We deliver the final mix as 24-bit WAV at your delivery sample rate (up to 96 kHz). On request also 16-bit for older workflows. MP3 or AAC for previews can be added, but not as the only master source.

If you will master elsewhere, ask for a stem master: a mix without heavy limiting, with headroom for the mastering chain. Mastering with us goes through the mastering service with Lars Jansen, so loudness and sequencing align more easily.

We keep project files for 12 months on secure storage at TransIP B.V.. After that we delete them unless you extend storage. Keep your own backup of everything you receive.

Turnaround and scheduling

For a single track we usually deliver a first mix version within five to ten business days after complete delivery, depending on studio load. EPs and albums are booked in blocks; we give a realistic date before you pay the deposit.

Rush is sometimes possible for an extra fee when the calendar allows — ask via 020 737 0284 or [email protected]. Our hours are Monday to Friday 10:00–20:00, Saturday 11:00–18:00. Closed Sunday. By appointment only.. Most mix work is offline; listening sessions are by appointment.

Combining mix with recording here? Many bands book a half or full day in the live room and then mix track by track. That saves file back-and-forth and keeps the sound coherent.

FAQ

Do I need to be in the studio while you mix?

No. Most clients listen at home and send bundled feedback. If you want to attend in the control room, book via contact.

Can I send my DAW session instead of WAV stems?

We prefer WAV stems from a fixed start. Full sessions with third-party plugins are hard to open reliably; follow the stem guide for dependable exports.

How many revisions are included?

You get 2 revision rounds after the first mix version. Extra changes or new stems are agreed separately under our terms.

Do you mix material not recorded at Micracoriva?

Yes, if the stems are technically sound. Sessions from other studios are welcome; mention that in your request so we can plan the check.

Does mixing lead into mastering with you?

Yes. After the mix you can move to mastering with the same engineers and monitors so loudness and tone stay aligned.
